On May 6, the Orthodox Church celebrates the day of St.
the great martyr George the Victorious or St. George’s Day.
The name George is of Greek origin and means “farmer”,
it is formed by the words “geo”, translated as “land” and “ergo” – “work”.
The name George became popular in Europe in the 14th century,
when the Crusaders brought history from Palestine
for the martyrdom of St. George in the name of Christ’s faith.
It is complemented by the legend of a young and handsome warrior,
who defeats the devil in the form of a dragon to prove the power of the Christian faith.

he personified the cult of Heros (Yaros, Ares) – one of the main gods.
